Worked example

Decimal 2.50 is 3/2 fractional and +150 American, and implies a 40% chance. Decimal 1.50 is 1/2 and -200, and implies 66.67%.

Common questions

Why do the implied probabilities add up to more than 100%?

Because the bookmaker's margin is built into every price. Add the implied probability of every outcome in a market and the total comes to more than 100. The margin calculator shows how much more.

Is the fractional price always exact?

Not always. Decimal prices are converted to the closest sensible fraction, so 2.37 shows as a fraction you could say out loud rather than an unreadable one. Use the decimal figure when the exact number matters.

Which format should I use?

Decimal is the easiest to compare across bookmakers, because bigger is always better and working out the return is one multiplication. Most bookmakers available in Africa show decimal by default.
