Ghana Sports Betting Market Sees Surge in Mobile Platform Adoption

Ghana's sports betting industry has witnessed remarkable growth in 2024, driven primarily by the widespread adoption of mobile betting platforms. The National Lottery Authority (NLA) reports that mobile transactions now account for over 75% of all betting activities, marking a significant shift from traditional betting shops.
Major operators including Betway, 1xBet, and BetPawa have intensified their digital marketing campaigns, targeting Ghana's young tech-savvy population. The convenience of mobile apps, combined with affordable data plans and increased smartphone penetration, has fueled this expansion.
Industry analysts project the market value to exceed $500 million by 2025, with annual growth rates surpassing 15%. However, regulators are tightening oversight to ensure responsible gambling practices. The NLA has introduced new guidelines requiring operators to implement self-exclusion tools, deposit limits, and age verification systems.
"The digital transformation is unstoppable," says Kojo Mensah, a gambling industry consultant. "What matters now is balancing innovation with player protection." The government is also considering tax reforms to capture more revenue from the booming sector while maintaining regulatory standards.
