Ghana's best prices are close to fair. Its worst are not close to anything

Take the highest number quoted on each result in Ghana and the opening weekend prices at 1.05%, which is essentially a fair book. Walk into the wrong place and the same weekend costs ten times that.
Most betting markets punish you for what you bet: long shots cost more than favourites, goals cost more than results. Ghana does that too, but it is the second-order effect here.
The first-order effect is where you bet. The spread between the keenest house in this market and the dearest is wider than the spread between backing a favourite and backing an outsider, which makes the choice of book the single most valuable decision a Ghanaian bettor makes.
In Ghana, which book you use costs more than what you bet on.

- Fulham v Chelsea, Mon 24 Aug3.72 1xBet / 3.96 1xBet / 2.06 betPawa · 27 / 25 / 48%
Newcastle against Liverpool is the tightest board of the weekend at 0.60%, and Fulham against Chelsea is not far behind. Both are matches where the visitor is favoured and the money is likely to be split, which is exactly when competition shows up in the price.
Arsenal against Coventry is the widest, and it is also the Friday night opener. It is a familiar pairing: the earliest kick-off gets the least attention and the worst terms.
What the three markets cost here
Margin is the share the odds carry above a fair book. In Ghana all three markets reward comparison, and the result rewards it most.
- Match result4.00% at a typical book, 1.05% at the best available price
- Over and under 2.5 goals5.21% at a typical book, 2.30% at the best available price
- Both teams to score6.21% at a typical book, 3.74% at the best available price
Cutting a typical match-result price down to the best available saves roughly three points, which is a substantial saving on the market most people actually bet.
The reason is not that Ghanaian books are unusually generous. It is that they are unusually spread out, so the top of the market is very keen while the bottom is very expensive, and the best available number is drawn from the top.
The distance between the top and the bottom
Averaged across the matches each house priced: overall, then match result, then over and under 2.5 goals, then both teams to score.
- Odibets3.73% overall · 2.11% · 4.06% · 5.02%
- Bangbet3.99% overall · 2.02% · 4.99% · 4.96%
- betPawa4.06% overall · 2.24% · 5.00% · 4.94%
- 1xBet4.10% overall · 1.59% · 3.16% · 7.53%
- Betwinner4.10% overall · 1.59% · 3.16% · 7.53%
- SportyBet4.30% overall · 1.99% · 6.03% · 4.88%
- Betika4.52% overall · 3.89% · 4.84% · 4.83%
- Betfox4.64% overall · 5.20% · 3.82% · 4.89%
- 22Bet6.01% overall · 7.11% · 5.98% · 4.96%
- Boltbet6.04% overall · 5.05% · 5.98% · 7.08%
- Mybet8.31% overall · 5.99% · 9.92% · 9.01%
- Betway8.53% overall · 9.12% · 8.00%
- Betboro10.23% overall · 9.34% · 9.89% · 11.46%
Odibets, Bangbet and betPawa are separated by fractions of a point and all three price the match result close to two percent. At the other end of the table the numbers are not in the same conversation.
Two names in the middle publish an identical price list on every outcome they share, to the second decimal. Holding accounts at both adds nothing that either one does not already give you.
Where the market pulls apart
The widest gaps of the weekend, and then the ladder that explains them.
- Hull City v Manchester United, home win7.00 at one book against 8.80 at another, 26% better
- Hull City v Manchester United, the draw4.50 at one book against 5.22 at another, 16% better
- Manchester City v Bournemouth, away win5.50 at one book against 6.30 at another, 15% better
- Fulham v Chelsea, home win3.30 at one book against 3.72 at another, 13% better
- Brentford v Tottenham, home win2.30 at one book against 2.54 at another, 10% better
- Favourites, under 2.001.68% below the best price on average
- Middling prices, 2.00 to 4.002.88% below
- Long shots, over 4.005.22% below
Hull City to beat Manchester United is quoted at 7.00 in one place and 8.80 in another, a difference of more than a quarter on the same opinion. On GHS 100 that is GHS 180 of extra return.
The bands below show the familiar shape. Favourites are barely worth shopping. Long shots are worth shopping every time, and in Ghana they are worth it three times over.
How far you have to look
With the market this spread out, the question is how quickly a bettor reaches the keen end of it.
- Betwinner40% of the best prices, 98.6% of the value
- Adding betPawa66% of the best prices, 99.5% of the value
- Adding Odibets89% of the best prices, 99.9% of the value
- Adding Betfox96% of the best prices, 99.9% of the value
The value curve is steep and then flat, which is the signature of a market with a clear top tier. Reaching the first two names captures almost all of what the best board is worth; everything after that is rounding.
What the opening weekend tells a Ghanaian bettor
Pick the house before you pick the bet. In a market this dispersed, the price difference between the keen end and the expensive end swamps every other decision on the slip. That is the one habit worth forming from this weekend.
The Friday opener is the trap. The earliest match of the round drew the widest board here. Whether that repeats is the single easiest thing to check next weekend, and if it does it is a standing reason to leave the opener alone.
Watch whether the top tier holds together. The leading names are currently within a fraction of a point of each other at the top. If they stay there, Ghana has a genuinely competitive market. If one drifts, the ranking changes and so does the advice.
This is the first instalment. Every round will get the same treatment.

Method
Odds from the Ghanaian bookmakers listed above on the Premier League fixtures of 21 to 24 August 2026, as at 18 August. Margin is the sum of the implied probabilities of every outcome in a market, less 100%. The best available price takes the highest number quoted on each outcome anywhere in the Ghanaian market. Percentages beside a fixture are the market's own view of it once margin is stripped out. Odds move; the numbers here describe a snapshot, not a guarantee. 18+. Bet responsibly.
