Gabon's board is a staircase: the further from the result, the more it costs

Gabon's opening-weekend board climbs in neat steps. The match result is priced close to fair, the goals line costs more than that, and both teams to score costs more again.
At the best available prices the result costs 1.52%, the over and under line 2.34%, and both teams to score 4.96%. Each step costs appreciably more than the one before it, and the last one doubles.
That staircase is the single most useful thing on this board, because it tells a bettor exactly what each extra leg on an accumulator is really costing. The first leg is nearly free. The third is not.
Each step away from the match result roughly doubles what the bet costs you.

- Newcastle v Liverpool, Sun 23 Aug3.73 1xBet / 4.16 1xBet / 1.97 1xBet · 26 / 24 / 50%
- Fulham v Chelsea, Mon 24 Aug3.72 1xBet / 3.96 1xBet / 2.02 1xBet · 26 / 25 / 49%
The fixtures themselves are priced remarkably evenly, from 1.24% on Hull City against Manchester United to 1.65% on Ipswich against Sunderland. Nothing on this card is being singled out.
The market's read is orthodox: one heavily favoured visitor, two away sides narrowly preferred, and one genuinely open match in the middle of Saturday.
The three steps
Margin is the share written into the odds above a fair book. Read these three lines in order and the staircase is the whole story.
- Match result4.41% at a typical book, 1.52% at the best available price
- Over and under 2.5 goals5.98% at a typical book, 2.34% at the best available price
- Both teams to score7.76% at a typical book, 4.96% at the best available price
Comparison works at every step, which is worth saying because it is not true in every market. A typical both-teams-to-score price here costs well over seven percent and the best available cuts that by more than a third.
But comparison does not flatten the staircase. It lowers every step while leaving the shape intact, which means the cost of adding legs is structural rather than something a bettor can shop away.
How the houses differ
Averaged across the same matches: overall, match result, over and under 2.5 goals, both teams to score.
- 1xBet4.10% overall · 1.59% · 3.16% · 7.53%
- betPawa4.99% overall · 5.01% · 5.00% · 4.96%
- Premier Bet7.02% overall · 6.02% · 8.03%
- Bet2Africa8.43% overall · 5.01% · 9.76% · 10.53%
The leading house prices the result at 1.59% and both teams to score at over seven, which is the staircase in a single row. The house behind it is flatter: worse on the result, better on the goals market.
That makes the choice genuinely dependent on the slip. A result bettor and an accumulator bettor should not be using the same house here.
Where the board disagrees
The widest gaps of the weekend, and then the price bands underneath.
- Hull City v Manchester United, home win7.60 at one book against 8.80 at another, 16% better
- Manchester City v Bournemouth, away win5.80 at one book against 6.30 at another, 9% better
- Hull City v Manchester United, the draw4.75 at one book against 5.14 at another, 8% better
- Fulham v Chelsea, the draw3.70 at one book against 3.96 at another, 7% better
- Brighton v Aston Villa, away win2.95 at one book against 3.15 at another, 7% better
- Favourites, under 2.002.12% below the best price on average
- Middling prices, 2.00 to 4.002.74% below
- Long shots, over 4.004.25% below
Hull City at home is available at 7.60 in one place and 8.80 in another. On XAF 5,000 that is XAF 6,000 of difference for the same opinion.
The bands below show a moderate ladder. Long prices are shaded about twice as hard as short ones, which is ordinary, and much less significant here than the market you choose to bet.
How much checking is worth doing
With the keen pricing concentrated, the list of places to check is short and easy to describe.
- 1xBet63% of the best prices, 99.3% of the value
- Adding betPawa100% of the best prices, 100.0% of the value
- Adding Premier Bet100% of the best prices, 100.0% of the value
- Adding Bet2Africa100% of the best prices, 100.0% of the value
One name carries most of the value and a second completes it. That second name matters more than its share suggests, because it is the one that covers the top of the staircase where the leader is weakest.
What to take from the first weekend
Count the steps before you build the slip. Every leg added beyond the match result roughly doubles the cost of the bet. That is the most useful number on this page for anyone who bets accumulators.
Match the house to the market. The keenest result price and the keenest goals price are not in the same place. Neither house is wrong; they are aimed at different bettors.
Watch whether the top step comes down. Both teams to score is where this market makes its money. Any movement there over the coming rounds would matter more to Gabonese bettors than movement anywhere else on the board.
This is the first instalment. Each round gets the same treatment.

Odds from the Gabonese bookmakers listed above on the Premier League fixtures of 21 to 24 August 2026, as at 18 August.
