Cameroon's market knows who wins. It cannot agree on the goals

On the Premier League's opening weekend, Cameroon's bookmakers are in near-perfect agreement about which side wins each match, and in open disagreement about how many goals get scored.
Take the best available number on each result and the match-result board prices at 1.51%, which is about as tight as a retail market gets. Do the same on both teams to score and the cost triples.
Between those two figures sits everything a bettor in this market needs to know. The result is a solved problem here. Goals are not, and that is where the price of a bet is decided.
The same book that prices a match result to within a point and a half charges five times that to tell you whether both sides score.

- Fulham v Chelsea, Mon 24 Aug3.72 1xBet / 3.98 Betmomo / 2.02 1xBet · 26 / 25 / 49%
Every match on the board is priced inside 1.7%, and most of them inside 1.6%. That is a remarkably even weekend: no fixture is being used to recover margin from the others.
Hull City at home to Manchester United is the one the market is most certain about, with the visitors a 70% chance. Ipswich against Sunderland is the one it is least certain about, and the three results there sit within a few points of each other.
Two markets, two different prices for the same knowledge
Margin is what the odds carry above a fair book. Read the three markets together and the difference is not subtle.
- Match result4.68% at a typical book, 1.51% at the best available price
- Over and under 2.5 goals5.29% at a typical book, -2.70% at the best available price
- Both teams to score7.21% at a typical book, 4.67% at the best available price
The over and under line is the strange one. Taking the keenest number on each side of it produces a book that adds up to less than 100%, which means the two halves of the market are being priced by houses that fundamentally disagree about how the game goes. That is not a loophole to exploit, since prices move and the shortest of them will not last. It is a measure of how unsettled the goals market is here.
Both teams to score is the opposite: consistently the dearest market on the board, and the one where the least comparison happens.
The book-by-book picture
Averaged across the same matches: overall first, then match result, then over and under 2.5 goals, then both teams to score.
- Melbet3.55% overall · 1.59% · 1.54% · 7.53%
- 1xBet4.10% overall · 1.59% · 3.16% · 7.53%
- betPawa4.99% overall · 5.01% · 5.00% · 4.96%
- Betmomo6.12% overall · 3.95% · 7.00% · 7.40%
- Premier Bet7.02% overall · 6.02% · 8.03%
- Supergooal7.04% overall · 7.17% · 7.00% · 6.95%
- Bettomax7.84% overall · 7.45% · 8.02% · 8.05%
Read along a row rather than down a column and the strategy shows itself. The two keenest houses price the match result at 1.59% and both teams to score at 7.53%, which is the same business charging five times as much for the market nobody checks.
betPawa is the exception worth noting. It is not the keenest on the result, but it charges roughly the same wherever it quotes, which makes it the more predictable choice for anyone whose slips are not all match-result bets.
Where the disagreement is widest
The gaps between the best and worst available price on a single result concentrate on the outcomes the market thinks are unlikely.
- Hull City v Manchester United, home win7.25 at one book against 8.80 at another, 21% better
- Manchester City v Bournemouth, away win5.48 at one book against 6.30 at another, 15% better
- Hull City v Manchester United, the draw4.70 at one book against 5.14 at another, 9% better
- Fulham v Chelsea, the draw3.64 at one book against 3.98 at another, 9% better
- Manchester City v Bournemouth, the draw4.70 at one book against 5.13 at another, 9% better
- Favourites, under 2.002.00% below the best price on average
- Middling prices, 2.00 to 4.003.06% below
- Long shots, over 4.005.17% below
Hull City to beat Manchester United is quoted at 7.25 in one place and 8.80 in another. On a XAF 5,000 stake that is XAF 7,750 of difference on a bet nobody would describe differently.
The ladder below is the same one bookmakers have used for a century: the shorter the price, the closer the market runs to fair, and the longer the price, the more it costs to take it.
How quickly the best of the board becomes reachable
The question is not who is cheapest overall but how few places you need to look before comparing stops paying.
- Melbet63% of the best prices, 98.3% of the value
- Adding betPawa90% of the best prices, 99.9% of the value
- Adding Betmomo95% of the best prices, 100.0% of the value
- Adding Supergooal100% of the best prices, 100.0% of the value
The best prices in this market are concentrated rather than spread, so the first choice does most of the work and the value curve flattens almost immediately after the second. Beyond that you are collecting fractions.
What to take from the opening weekend
The result market is already efficient. There is very little left to win by shopping a match-result price in Cameroon, because the keenest houses have priced the weekend to within a rounding error of a fair book. Effort spent comparing results is effort mostly wasted.
Goals are where the money is being made. The gap between a typical price and the best available on both teams to score is several times the gap on the result. If you bet goals markets, that is where a second look pays for itself.
Watch whether the goals disagreement closes. A market whose best over and under prices do not add up to a whole book is a market still forming a view. As more rounds are played, the interesting question is whether the houses converge on goals the way they already have on results.
This is the first instalment. The same numbers will follow each round.

Odds from the Cameroonian bookmakers listed above on the Premier League fixtures of 21 to 24 August 2026, as at 18 August.
